Invent a new review game for the end of a chapter. How would it be structured? Would there be a clearly-defined winner? Make sure this game incorporates everyone in the class, where everyone is actively reviewing the material on some level.
(This blog will be graded based upon the thoughtfulness of your answer.)
Game 1: The game is like this: Its where Mr. Jobe gives us 30~50 questions. Which means there will be 30~50 rounds. Every time someone gets a question wrong, they get eliminated and they just have to watch the others solve. The way of getting the winner is simple: The one who stays the last or people who went all the way to 50 questions. This game will be simple and easy for others to play because of its simple rules.
ReplyDeleteGame 2: This game needs 2 spinners. First, everyone selects number between 1~10. The spinner should have at least 10 numbers on it. Then, for another spinner, there should be numbers 1~5. Then we spin both spinners. The one that has numbers between 1~10 tells who will have to solve the question. The another spinner tells you how much points the question will be worth. When you get a question wrong, you get that much point off.
P.S
You will also need some questions written on the paper with how much point that question is going to be worth.
"The Dart Game"
ReplyDeleteNeeded: dart, dartboard, 5 sets of questions (20 in each set), white board, white board marker, white board eraser
There will be a dart with 1~20 that have a corresponding question to each of it. For example, the a student throws a dart at the dart board and it hits 3. Then the teacher writes down the question on the board. If the student gets it, they win 2 points, and the teacher will have to put a new question for 3. If they don't get it, they get no points, and the students that are next in line will get a chance to solve it. Once somebody else solves it, they get 1 point, since it wasn't the question they chose.
If they hit a bullseye are a bulls, then they have to throw once more.
*This will rarely happen: For example, if the teacher is out of questions for a specific number, since the students were keep hitting it, then if a student hits the number, then they will have to throw again until they get another number that has an available question for them to solve.
-Christine Ahn 8D-
Also, the answer for the questions will be in a separate sheet of paper that the teacher will have in possession.
DeleteGame:
ReplyDeleteMaterials Needed -
This game is like a jeopardy. You will need a jeopardy making site to make one on a computer or just the jeopardy outline on the white board and the questions on a separate sheet of paper. For the columns, it could be sections from chapter 1. The point’s difficultly would be from 10 - 1. 10 is the hardest and goes down to 1 as the easiest.
How to play -
First separate the class into 3 or 4 teams. Then give a question with no points to decide who will go first. The team that wins will get to choose a question worth 1 - 10 points, as the question pops up, the teams start working on the question. The team who raises their hand first get to answer. If answered corrected, the team gets the point. If wrong, they lose the point and the other teams get to answer the question. The winner is the team with the most points.
Things needed :
ReplyDeleteMini boards, board markers and board erasers
How to play :
Mr Jobe puts our class into 4 teams and give them each a team number (1, 2 ..etc). Each team takes turn to create a question (anything from the textbook) for the other teams to solve and for creating the question, the team can get 1 point. Now team 1 starts off the game and they can choose how much point the question worth for and they can choose from (3, 6 and 9). All teams should put up their board up and the team that gets the correct answer can earn the point and make their question for the other team to do. IF both/ triple teams get the answer, they all get the points
By the way the team with most points gets to win!
DeleteThe review game I am think of is a game where it might take a bit of time due to moving the desks around. Basically, if you’ve ever heard of the game Trouble it maybe easier to understand. The objective are...
ReplyDelete1.We push the desks into the perimeter of a 7x6 rectangle.
2.Students split up into 4 groups(which the teacher decides).
3.Each group stands by a corner of the rectangle.
4.On each desk, there will be a pile of paper with one question on it flipped over.
5.Mr.Jobe stands in the middle of the square and the first person throws a dice.
6.If you get an even number you can go that many spaces.
7.If you get an odd number you go backwards that amount.(At the beginning this rule doesn’t count. You can’t move at the beginning if you role an odd number)
8.But if one of the students from another group “sends home” a person that person must start over again.(If student A was on desk 2 and student B comes and comes to the same desk, student A must go back to the starting point and try to make a circle again.)
9.Note that every question can only be answered once, and the next player can’t solve the problem again.
The team which all students make a whole rotation around the rectangle wins!
This is a very unique idea! I'm not sure if we can make it work in class, but I'd love to try.
DeleteI think the best way to review is
ReplyDelete1. Mr. Jobe puts everyone in to pairs
2. Mr. Jobe puts a math question that is relevant to the chapter on the board or screen.
3. Then both!!! of the pairs have to show work and the answer or the answer shall not count
4. A correct answer will earn a team 4 points. An incorrect answer 0 points. An omit is -2 points.
5.The team with the most points wins simple but effective
The Review Game I think of is called Move It In. Everyone will get into a pair of 4. The gender doesn't matter. There will be about 12 questions from Mr. Jobe and he is going to say the questions one by one. After saying the question, the class has 5 minutes to solve the question. Then, he is going to do a countdown from 10. The group needs to first right down the correct answer on a white board. Ones who are right will go to the front of the room and they will have 20 seconds to form the shape of the number with their bodies. It doesn't matter if they do it with fingers, or their body parts, but all of the members in the group needs to be a part of the number (shape). Mr. Jobe and rest of the classmates that didn't get the answer right in that round will pick the shape that is formed the best and that team will receive 3 points. The other teams that still got the answer will receive 1 point.
ReplyDeleteREVIEW BATTLEFIELD
ReplyDelete-The class is split into 2 big teams. These teams will verse against each other
-Everyone will acquire a whiteboard with a marker and each team will need a set of math questions.
-The first team fires off a question. Everyone in the other team has to answer that question within 15 seconds. People who didn't get the question right dies and is out of the game
-Both teams take turns firing questions at each other and answering them. The team with the most survivors at the end of the round wins
-Prize: Extra points? Maybe?
Elimination
ReplyDelete- Mr. Jobe writes question on board
- Entire class solves
- Every body shows answer to Mr. Jobe until there is only one person left.
- That person gets eliminated and it keeps on going until you get #1, 2, 3.
- #1 ,2, 3 get prizes

ReplyDeleteMaterials: token, whiteboards, markers
ReplyDelete1. Get into pairs
2. After you find your pair, Mr. Jobe will give a question
3. Each pair tries to solve the question and when they finish solving, they put the answer on their whiteboards
4. When you finish, raise your board and have Mr. Jobe check your answer
5. If the answer is right, the pair gets a token
The pair with the most tokens wins the game
Review B-I-N-G-O
ReplyDeleteThis "Bingo" might be a little bit different then the "Bingo" that you know.
You will have teams of 4, and each team will have a bingo board. There will also be a caller (Mr. Jobe's job) Mr. Jobe will already have the answers that each team can choose to write down on their boards. On each of the squares on the cards(students), there will be an answer. On the cards(the one that the caller selects), there will be a question. So each team will have to solve the question in order to find out if he/she will be able to place the chip on the card.
The objective: of the game is to get a !bingo! in the shape of an addition symbol!!! (YAY FUN!!!!!!!)
Whichever team gets a BINGO first wins!!! There may be no prize, but you get to be happy for the rest of the day, so it's ok~
HAPPY BINGO
The Review Game I am thinking of is called "MIX IT".
ReplyDeleteMaterials Needed :
- 4 black pocket bags, paper, markers
How to Play :
1. Mr. Jobe will prepare 4 black pockets, filled with some cards.
>> 1st pocket bag : Any numbers (positive #, negative #, zero)
>> 2nd pocket bag : Description words (Less then, increased, decreased, etc)
>> 3rd pocket bag : Variables (3x, y, 2z, etc)
>> 4th pocket bag : Equal(=), Greater than, less than (>,<)
2. Mr. Jobe, or students will pick numbers from the bags, and make one equation.
3. We will have 15 seconds to solve that equation, written on the board.
4. Each question will worth 1 mark.
5. After solving 10 questions, see what table has gotten the highest score.
6. Mr. Jobe gives a prize, or just finish.

My game will be called the "The $ Shot"
ReplyDeleteThis game will need a 2 basketball hoop (most likely an empty trash can). The class will need to be divided into 2 and each person on the team will get a chance to shoot a rubber ball into the basket. If the person is able to make the basket, he or she will get an opportunity to answer a question from chapter 1 (Mr. Jobe will need to prepare some chapter 1 questions). If the person is able to answer the question correct, he or she will able to gain a point for the team. This will continue until the last person. Every time someone answers a question, the basket will moved further for the next person. The last person will have a SPECIAL opportunity to answer a question which is worth 6 points, but the question needs to be more challenging for the student. At the end the winning team will receive a price from Mr. Jobe.

:)
Materials Needed: whiteboard, markers
ReplyDelete1. Get into groups of four
2. Get a whiteboard and makrker
3. Mr.Jobe gives question
4. First team to get answer quietly shows their answer to Mr.Jobe
5. If the answer is right they get 2 points, but if it's wrong they get -1 point
6. Other teams quietly have to show their answer and if they get it right, they get one point, if they get it wrong they get 0 points.
7. Every question gets harder and at the end the group with the most points wins!

Material Need-3charts of board 3by3, dice
ReplyDeleteFirst you get in to groups of 2. And Mr. Jobe rights questions in each board 3by3. Each board has numbers 1,2,3
Than each team rolls a dice until numbers from 1-3 come outs. After the number comes out you go to the board with the same number.
Than you choose the question that is covered with paper and solve the paper. Each bards has hard normal easy and very hard question.
Hard-5 point
Veryhard-6
Normal-3
easy-1
Who eve reaches exactly 40points wins the game.
To start out with the game, Mr. Jobe sets a timer for about 45 minutes.
ReplyDeleteNext, Mr. Jobe gives everyone a question from the textbook review or something and gives it to the class one by one.
The class will work together to solve the question as the difficulty level increases throughout the game.
Every time the class gets a question right, they progress onto the next question, but if the class gets it wrong then, they get a time deduction.
They have to answer 30 questions before time runs out, because if they do, then they get a free homework pass.
However, if they don’t get the 30 questions answered, then every person has to buy Mr. Jobe a cookie or a piece of candy.

ReplyDeleteOhh that's me... I have a blog and I choose the [google account] profile.
DeleteThings you need for the game
ReplyDelete- a bell
- whiteboard and a marker
1. Choose a partner that your going to be teams with
2. Mr Jobe writes down a question on the board
3. The first team to ring the bell gets to say the answer
(depending on the question, there would be points for it)
4. If the team gets it correct, they receive the amount of points, however if they get it incorrect, they lose the amount of points the question is worth
5. At the end, the team with the most points is given the most challenging and hardest question than the ones that are given before
6. If that team gets it correct, they are the winner. However if they fail, there is no winner ^^
